Tag manager and analytics events
On a page with a data layer, Tafsee Popup announces when a campaign is seen and when someone signs up, so your tag manager can send it to analytics.
If your site uses a tag manager, you do not need to connect anything. The script tells the page's data layer about two moments by itself.
What you need
- A page that already has a data layer (the dataLayer array that Google Tag Manager creates). Without one, nothing is pushed.
- Someone who can set up a trigger and a tag in your tag manager.
The two events
- tafsee_popup_view: a campaign was seen.
- tafsee_popup_signup: someone signed up.
Each is pushed once per campaign and page. It carries the campaign's ID and the version's ID. Nothing the visitor typed is put there.
Use them in Google Tag Manager
- In Tag Manager, create a trigger of the type Custom Event and type tafsee_popup_signup as the event name.
- Create a tag for your analytics tool (for example an event tag for Google Analytics) and attach the trigger.
- Preview the container, sign up on your own popup, and check that the tag fired.
- Submit and publish the container.
Where the app mentions it
In a campaign's Publish step, under the tools the campaign sends to, a note says: Using a tag manager? A page with a data layer is told by itself when this campaign is seen and when someone signs up, as the events tafsee_popup_view and tafsee_popup_signup. Nothing the visitor typed is put there.
Other ways to hear about a sign-up
- In the page: the event tafsee:conversion. See Page events and HTML hooks.
- On your server: a webhook. See Webhooks.
If it does not work
- Nothing arrives in the data layer: the page had no data layer when the campaign was seen. The tag manager must load on that page.
- The event arrives once only: it is pushed once per campaign and page. A reload pushes it again.
