Mailchimp

Add every lead to a Mailchimp audience, subscribed when they gave consent and tagged with the campaign's name.

Add every lead to a Mailchimp audience, subscribed when they gave consent and tagged with the campaign's name.

What you need

  • A Mailchimp account with an audience.
  • A Mailchimp API key.
  • In Tafsee Popup: a role that can manage integrations.

1. In Mailchimp

  1. In Mailchimp, open your profile, then Extras > API keys, and create a key.
  2. Copy the key. It ends with your data centre, for example -us21.
  3. Note the name of the audience the leads should join.

2. In Tafsee Popup

  1. Open Integrations and find Mailchimp. Use the search box or the category tabs.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. Fill in the form:
  • API key: the key you copied.
  • Audience: the audience's name or id. With one audience in the account you can leave it empty.
  • Account name: optional. A name to tell your accounts apart.
  1. Click Connect. What you enter is stored encrypted and is used only to deliver your leads.
  2. A window asks which campaigns send leads to Mailchimp. Tick them and click Save campaigns.

New campaigns are not added by themselves. Come back here, or add this integration in the campaign's Publish step.

What is sent

  • The e-mail address, the first name (FNAME), the last name (LNAME) and the phone (PHONE).
  • The status: subscribed when the visitor gave consent; otherwise transactional, which means they are in the audience and are not sent marketing e-mails.
  • Two tags: the campaign's name and tafsee-popup.
  • A contact that already exists is updated, not added twice.

This tool takes a fixed set of details, so there is nothing to map. The list above is what it receives.

Test it

  1. Open a campaign that is connected to this tool, go to its Publish step and click Send test lead.
  2. The window shows each tool and whether it took the lead. A test lead is clearly marked, never counts in your numbers and is flagged in the leads list.
  3. Look in Mailchimp for the test contact.

What you should see

The card shows Connected and the number of campaigns. New leads carry Delivered in the leads list, and appear in Mailchimp.

If it does not work

  • "A Mailchimp API key ends with the data centre, for example -us21." Copy the whole key again.
  • "Mailchimp has no audience named …": the audience name does not match. Type it exactly as Mailchimp shows it, or use its id.
  • "Mailchimp refused the member: …": Mailchimp did not accept the address. It refuses addresses it finds fake or that were permanently removed from the audience, and a contact that lacks a field the audience requires.
  • The form has no e-mail field: Mailchimp needs an address. Add one.
  • Contacts arrive as non-subscribed: they did not give consent. Add a consent box to the form.
  • No campaign sends leads here yet, so nothing will arrive. Click Choose campaigns.
  • A lead is marked Failed: open it to read what the tool answered, fix the cause, then click Send again. See Lead delivery and Send again.
