Languages, Arabic and right-to-left
Use the app in six languages, build Arabic campaigns that read right to left, and know which words the popup writes by itself in the visitor's language.
There are two different things here: the language of the app you work in, and the language of the popup your visitors see.
The language of the app
The app comes in English, Arabic, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese. Arabic turns the whole app right to left.
- Open Settings > General.
- Under Default language, type or pick a language. A language is found by its own name, its English name or its code.
- Save. Changes the whole app now, top bar included, and is where new campaigns start.
You also choose the language when you create an organisation.
The language of a popup
A popup says what you type. Tafsee Popup does not translate your words. To serve two languages, make one campaign per language and show each to the right visitors (see below).
Arabic and right-to-left campaigns
- On the page where you start a campaign, set the Language filter to Arabic or English & Arabic to find Arabic templates.
- In the editor, open the theme settings and set Text direction to Right to left. Use right to left for Arabic campaigns.
- Under Font pair pick an Arabic font pair, for example Zain (Arabic and Latin), Tajawal (clean Arabic), Cairo (bold Arabic) or IBM Plex Sans Arabic.
On your website, a popup with Arabic content, or on a page that is itself right to left, is drawn right to left.
Words the popup writes by itself
A few short words are not typed by you: for example the close label, the message while a code is prepared, error messages under form fields, and the default consent sentence. The script writes these in the visitor's language. It has them in English, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hindi and Tamil, and uses English for any other language.
To use your own consent sentence instead, fill in Consent box wording under Settings > Privacy and data.
Show the right language to the right visitor
Use one of these conditions in the rule editor (see Devices, browsers and language and Which pages: page and URL rules):
- Language: The visitor’s browser language. The choices include Arabic, English, French, German, Spanish, Hindi and Urdu.
- Page URL: if your Arabic pages live under a path such as /ar, show the Arabic campaign only where the page address contains /ar.
These docs
Every article of this documentation is available in English and Arabic. Use the language switch of this site. Labels of buttons are quoted as the app shows them in that language.
If it does not work
- No language matches what you typed.
- Arabic text is aligned to the left: set Text direction to Right to left.
- Arabic letters look plain or wrong: choose an Arabic font pair. If the visitor's browser cannot load the font, the popup falls back to the device's own font.
- Both language versions show to the same visitor: add the language or page condition to both campaigns.
