Exit-intent popups
Show your offer at the moment a visitor starts to leave, on computers and on phones, and choose how easily it fires.
Exit intent opens a campaign when a visitor is about to leave. It only interrupts people who were leaving anyway, so it suits a last offer.

What you need
- A campaign open in the editor, on the Where & when step.
Steps
- Open the card When should it appear?.
- Choose When they're about to leave.
- Under How easily it fires choose how early it fires:
- Low: only when the pointer leaves at the very top of the window. Fewest showings.
- Medium: when the pointer leaves near the top of the window.
- High: fires earliest, in a wider strip below the top of the window. Most showings.
- Decide on Also watch on phones (see below).
- Click Done, then keep the frequency sensible: Once a week with Stop once they sign up switched on.
The fastest way is the recipe Exit intent, any page under Quick start.
On computers
Opens when the pointer heads for the tabs or the close button.
On phones
How it works on phones: a phone has no pointer to watch. It opens when a visitor who has read down the page flicks quickly back up. At High it also opens when they switch away from the page.
With the switch off: Off on phones: this trigger fires on computers and tablets with a pointer only.
Combine it
Click Add another trigger to add a second moment, such as After a few seconds. The campaign opens on whichever happens first.
Exit intent and inactivity cannot happen together in one rule. The rule editor tells you to keep one.
Try it on your own site
Open your site with ?tafsee-debug=1 at the end of the address. The test panel has a button that simulates exit intent. See Why isn't my popup showing?.
If it does not work
- It never fires on phones: switch on Also watch on phones. The campaign's check list says Exit intent is desktop-only when it is off.
- It fires too rarely on computers: raise How easily it fires to medium or high.
- It fired once and not again: that is the frequency setting. See The popup shows too often, or does not show again.
