Frequency: how often a visitor sees it

Limit how often one visitor sees a campaign, stop after a sign-up, rest after a close, and cap a whole campaign by sign-ups or by visitors a day.

Frequency is what keeps a popup helpful and not annoying. It is also the most common reason you no longer see your own popup.

The simple settings

In Where & when, open the card How often should one visitor see it?

  • Once per visit: once per visit. A visit ends when the visitor closes the tab.
  • Once a day.
  • Once a week: the recommended choice.
  • Only once, ever: once, and never again in that browser.
  • Every page view: on every page they open. The app warns you about this one.
  • Stop once they sign up: people who signed up are not asked again.
  • After they close it, wait: the number of days it stays hidden after the visitor closes it.

What the app warns about

  • No limit: it can show on every page view, which shoppers find annoying.
  • Shows more than once a day. Once a week is kinder and converts just as well.
  • It comes straight back after someone closes it.
  • People who already signed up will keep seeing it.

Click Use safe settings to fix them in one step.

Limits inside one display rule

In the rule editor, on a rule's Actions tab, under Show frequency:

  • Show at most a number of times every (days).
  • Hide after conversion (days): Most brands use 365 days so no one is asked twice.
  • Hide after close (days): Give visitors who close it a break.

These apply together with the simple settings. The stricter one wins.

Limits for the whole campaign

Under Campaign limits. Stops for the whole campaign, on every page and device. 0 means no limit.

  • Stop after this many sign-ups: For offers like “the first 100 get a gift”. Counted over the campaign’s life; it stops within about a minute of the goal.
  • Show to at most this many visitors a day: Keeps a limited offer from going out too fast. Counted per day (UTC); it resumes the next day.

Limits for every campaign

In Settings, under the display rules tab: a gap between two popups, and Stop showing campaigns to people who signed up.

What is not limited

  • A campaign opened by a click on a link or button you added always opens.
  • A campaign opened by your site's code with TafseePopup.show() always opens.
  • A teaser tab lets a visitor reopen a popup they closed. See The teaser tab.

Where it is remembered

In the visitor's browser, for your website only. Another device, another browser or cleared browser data starts fresh. See Privacy and data.
