Exit intent
Exit intent popups: one last, well-timed offer
Only visitors who are leaving see it — everyone else shops undisturbed.
Exit intent detects the moment a visitor is about to leave your page and shows a popup at exactly that point. Tafsee Popup supports exit intent on desktop and on mobile, so you can offer a discount, a reminder or a lead magnet to people who would otherwise be gone.
Tafsee Popup
What you get
Desktop exit intent
Triggers when the cursor moves towards the browser bar or tabs to leave.
Mobile exit intent
Uses mobile signals such as scrolling back up quickly or going back, since there is no cursor.
Target cart and product pages
Show a different exit offer on cart, product and blog pages with URL rules.
Frequency caps
Limit how often the exit popup appears so it stays helpful, not nagging.
Test the offer
A/B test different exit offers and see which is statistically better.
What is exit intent?
Exit intent is a trigger, not a popup design. On desktop it watches the mouse: when the cursor moves quickly towards the top of the window — to close the tab, type a new address or hit back — the popup appears. On mobile there is no cursor, so detection relies on behaviour such as a fast scroll back towards the top or the back gesture.
The idea is simple: you don't interrupt people who are still browsing. You speak only to those who were leaving anyway, when a well-chosen offer has nothing to lose.
What to show when someone is leaving
- On product pages: a first-order discount code or free delivery.
- On the cart page: a reminder of what's in the basket, a free-shipping threshold, or an offer to save the cart by email or WhatsApp. More in our cart abandonment guide.
- On blog posts: a relevant lead magnet such as a checklist or guide.
- On pricing pages: a short survey — 'What's stopping you today?' — to learn about objections.
Set up an exit intent popup in Tafsee Popup
- Design — start from any of the 209 templates; modals and slide-ins work best for exit offers.
- Show when — choose the exit intent trigger, enable it for desktop, mobile or both, add URL rules for the pages that matter, and set a frequency cap.
- Publish — connect your integration, send a test lead and go live.
Exit intent is one of 39 trigger and targeting rules, so you can combine it with new vs returning visitors, device, UTM, referrer or schedule.
Keep it respectful
- Show an exit popup at most once per session.
- Make the close button obvious and let Esc and clicking outside dismiss it.
- Offer something genuinely useful — not the same popup they already closed.
Tafsee Popup also offers Arabic/RTL templates, so exit offers look native on Arabic pages.
Frequently asked questions
It is a popup that appears when a visitor shows signs of leaving the page — moving the cursor to close the tab on desktop, or scrolling back up or going back on mobile.
Yes. Tafsee Popup supports exit intent on both desktop and mobile. Mobile detection uses behaviour signals instead of mouse movement.
Exit popups appear as a visitor leaves, not when they arrive from search, so they are not the intrusive-interstitial pattern Google describes. Keep them easy to close.
