Social proof popups
A social proof popup that only shows numbers that are true
Show how many people really joined your list. No invented buyers, no made-up notifications.
A social proof popup tells a visitor that other people have already done the thing you are asking them to do. In Tafsee Popup that takes the form of a social proof block inside your popup: a line such as '1,190 people joined this month', where the number is the real count of sign-ups that campaign collected. It is not a feed of live orders from your store, and Tafsee does not generate fake activity. This page explains exactly what the block does and how to use it honestly.
Tafsee Popup
What you get
A number Tafsee measured
Choose 'Real sign-ups' and the block shows how many people that campaign really signed up. Test leads are excluded.
Last 7 days, 30 days or all time
Pick the period the count covers, and the default sentence follows it: 'people signed up this week', 'this month' or 'have signed up'.
Hidden until the number is worth showing
Set a minimum (10 by default). While the real count is below it, shoppers do not see the line at all.
Your own number, with a warning
You can type a figure instead, such as your total customers. The editor reminds you that shoppers read it as fact and it never updates by itself.
Ratings and review quotes as content
Add a real review quote or your store rating with text and image blocks. You type them in; they are not pulled from a review platform.
Shown at the right moment
The block lives inside a normal campaign, so every trigger applies: exit intent, scroll depth, time on page, or when the reviews section scrolls into view.
What the social proof popup block does, and what it does not
The block is one line inside your popup: a bold number, a short sentence after it, and up to six small coloured dots that stand in for a row of people. You add it from the block list in the editor, the same way you add a headline or a form.
The number has two possible sources. With Real sign-ups, Tafsee counts the leads that campaign collected over the last 7 days, the last 30 days or all time, leaves out test leads, and puts the result in the popup. From 100 upwards it is rounded down to the nearest ten, so 1,193 shows as 1,190. If you run an A/B test, the sign-ups of all variants are counted together. With Your own number, the block shows exactly what you type.
Now the limits, stated plainly. The count is sign-ups to that Tafsee campaign, not purchases. Tafsee Popup does not read orders from Salla, Zid, Shopify or any other store, so it cannot show 'Sara from Jeddah bought this 4 minutes ago'. It has no corner notification that cycles through recent buyers. And the dots are plain coloured circles, not customer photos.
If what you need is a feed of real orders, that requires a tool connected to your store's order data. What Tafsee offers is narrower and easier to stand behind: a true number, shown next to the form it describes.
A FOMO popup without the fake part
A FOMO popup works on the fear of missing out: other people are getting this, and it will not be here for long. Both halves can be true. When they are, they are persuasive. When they are invented, shoppers tend to notice, and in several countries consumer protection rules treat invented reviews or invented activity as misleading. Check the rules where you sell; that part is your responsibility.
Here is how to build the honest version in Tafsee Popup.
- Other people are getting this: use the real sign-up count, or type a number you can prove, such as orders shipped last year taken from your store's own reports.
- It will not be here for long: add a countdown timer in fixed-date mode, set to the moment the offer really ends.
- Limited quantity: only write 'only 20 left' if you will update it. The product block shows what you type and does not read stock from your store.
A recent sales popup or sales notification popup that shows names and cities of buyers who do not exist is the thing to avoid. Tafsee does not produce those, and we would rather lose that feature comparison than add it.
How to add social proof to a popup
- Start from a template that already has it, such as 'Signature welcome', 'Waitlist capture', 'Gated buying guide' or 'Live webinar signup', or add the Social proof block to any campaign.
- Choose the number shown: 'Real sign-ups' or 'Your own number'. For real sign-ups, pick the period and the minimum the count must reach before the line appears.
- Edit the sentence so it matches the period and the offer: 'people joined this month', 'people on the waitlist', 'shoppers get these alerts'.
- Set the dots from zero to six, choose the alignment, and place the line just above or below the form.
A new campaign starts at zero, so the line stays hidden at first and appears once the count reaches your minimum. That is by design. Showing '3 people signed up' does the opposite of what you want.
The block works in any campaign type and installs with the same single script as everything else in Tafsee Popup. There is no plugin to install; you paste one snippet or add it through Google Tag Manager.
Other honest proof you can put in a popup
A count is only one kind of proof, and often not the strongest. These all work inside a Tafsee popup using ordinary text, image and icon blocks.
- One real review quote, with the customer's first name and their permission. A specific sentence about delivery or fit beats five stars with no words.
- Your store rating, written as text with its source: '4.7 on Google from 312 reviews'. Update it when it changes.
- Trust facts shown with the icons block: delivery time, returns policy, secure payment.
- A named customer or press mention, as a logo image, if you have the right to use it.
Timing matters as much as content. The 'element comes into view' trigger can open a popup when the reviews section of a product page scrolls into view, which is when the visitor is already weighing what others think. For a visitor about to leave, pair the proof with an exit-intent popup.
When to leave social proof out
If your store is new and the numbers are small, do not show them and do not inflate them. Lead with the offer itself: a welcome discount or a useful lead magnet needs no crowd behind it.
Leave it out as well when the popup is already busy. A headline, one line of text, a form and a button is a complete popup. Add the proof line only if it earns its place, and on the Growth plan and above you can A/B test the popup with and without it to find out.
Frequently asked questions
It is a popup that shows evidence that other people already took the offer: a sign-up count, a review quote or a rating. In Tafsee Popup the social proof block shows a number and a sentence inside your popup, next to the form.
No. Tafsee Popup does not read order data from your store, so it has no recent sales popup or sales notification popup with buyer names. The social proof block shows the number of sign-ups a campaign collected, or a figure you type yourself.
No. Tafsee does not generate fake activity of any kind. The measured count comes from real leads with test leads excluded. If you type your own number, the editor warns you that shoppers read it as fact, and making sure it is true is your responsibility.
From 100 upwards the count is rounded down to the nearest ten, so 1,193 shows as 1,190. Rounding down means the popup never claims more sign-ups than you have.
The line is hidden. You set the minimum the real count must reach, 10 by default, and shoppers do not see the block until it gets there. The rest of the popup shows as normal.
Yes, as content you add yourself with text and image blocks. Tafsee Popup does not import reviews from a review platform, so use real quotes, name the source of any rating, and keep them up to date.
